The Importance of Access to Care

Recently, we've been discussing elements of the Affordable Care Act, such as health insurance exchanges and essential health benefits, that could potentially make a big impact on access to medicines. As these programs are put into places over the upcoming months and years, and the Campaign and our partners will be working to support implementation policies that expand prescription drug coverage and ensure individuals have access to the innovative drugs that are right for them.

In the video below, Marie Dahlstrom, Executive Director of Familias en Accion, describes how working with cancer patients has shown her how timely access to innovative medicines has prolonged lives and improved health.

Innovative medicines have helped millions of individuals live longer, healthier lives. Patients today have the opportunity to receive treatments that would have been unimaginable only a few decades ago. As Marie says, the careful implementation of the Affordable Care Act gives us an opportunity to ensure that patients can receive those breakthrough medicines, and work together "to be able to develop the best health care system, the best access for all patients to the most innovative, cutting-edge treatment that is right for them individually."

We look forward to working with Familias en Acción and other organizations and individuals across the country in our advocacy for policies that expand access to medicines. To join us, sign up for email updates, or follow the Campaign on Twitter and Facebook.
