It's officially autumn! While there are many things that we love about the season, this time of year gives Americans the opportunity to pick more than just apples and pumpkins. Every fall, older Americans can choose to enroll in one program that has been keeping our nation's seniors healthy for more than a decade- Medicare Part D!
Mark your calendars for Medicare Part D open enrollment, which starts on October 15th and runs through December 7th. Why enroll in Medicare Part D prescription coverage? Simply put, the program works.
For the ninth year in a row, an overwhelming majority of Medicare beneficiaries say they're happy with their Part D coverage. It can be tough to get people to see eye to eye on anything, but 9 in 10 of the 39 million older Americans enrolled in the program agree that it's worth recommending to others. Moreover, the savings provided by Part D enable seniors to stick to their doctor-recommended prescription plans and stay healthier, longer. In fact, 67% of beneficiaries say that filling their prescriptions might not be feasible without Part D coverage, and 62% warned they might be forced to reduce their prescription intake or stop taking their medicine altogether without Part D coverage.
In addition to giving Americans who are new to the Medicare Part D the option to enroll, the open enrollment period provides current beneficiaries with the ability to switch to another plan that may better suit their needs or save them money, something 13% of beneficiaries take advantage of each year. Two-thirds of beneficiaries say that having ability to choose from a variety of plans matters to them.
As the Medicare Part D enrollment opens this fall, keep in mind that Part D is public policy that works. By enrolling or switching plans, American seniors can be sure they have the coverage they need at a price they can afford, no matter the season.
