Comfy sneakers? Check. Computer charger? Check. Water bottle? Check. I'm nearly ready to hit the road and head to Austin! The only thing missing from my packing list for SXSW Interactive? The list of sessions I want to attend!
With so many interesting sessions to choose from, the SXSW schedule can be overwhelming. Here are just a few of the can't-miss sessions for digital advocates.
- "Smart City: The Austin Opportunity for Health": We recommend this session for any health-focused advocacy organization looking to integrate digital into their strategy. Whether your organization focuses on social determinants of health or one particular disease, this session explores how technology influences and changes our health landscape. There's no specific hashtag for this session, but if you can't attend, you can follow along by connecting with presenters @BeninBoulder, @KirkPWatson and @mkahlon.
- "360 Degree Approach To Philanthropy": Partnerships are effective ways for non-profits to raise funds and awareness. This session delves into how to make the most of those partners. If you're a fan of the WWE, this session is sure to pique your interest. Check out Stephanie McMahon and Renee Young's Twitter feeds to follow along.
- "Ed Saxon: The Power of Story in a Digital Age": Communication experts know the power of a story. Stories inspire your advocates in a way that simple facts and figures cannot. So how do you create a powerful digital narrative? This session examines what makes a compelling story online and how you can rewrite your advocacy's tale. @TheEdSaxon has a lot of knowledge to share, so join the conversation!
- "Future of Nonprofits Meet Up": SXSW presents a tremendous opportunity for networking. (I'd be remiss if I didn't include at least one meetup on my list.) On March 15, you can discuss both the most pressing challenges and new ways to grow with other non-profit leaders. Want to join the conversation but can't attend? Engage with presenter David Neff on Twitter.
Of course, I listed just a few of the great sessions at SXSW. Tell me which ones you can't wait to attend in the comments! Not going this year but went last year? What did you learn from SXSW 2015?
The digital advocacy learning doesn't stop at SXSW! You can always access the latest research and resources for online outreach at the Digital Advocacy Institute.
